Not really, I don't play any console RPGs anymore, but I still love playing my GBA and DS RPGs (FE, FF, Pokemon, etc) And I have a strong Urge to buy Elder Scoll games (Regerts no reinstalling Morrowind)

Guild Wars doesn't invlolve you like most other RPG's.
Some of my fave's are: The KOTOR series and a little GBA series called Golden Sun. Golden Sun 1&2 are hands down best RPG's I've ever played.

The combat system in guild wars is awesome. The storyline is sub-par. Shame final fantasy XII is light on the storyline (compared to ff-x and ff-x 2, my all time favorites).

I think personally that GW should not be compared next to classic RPGs such as Final Fintasy series and the likes of Kotor....
Firstly because i beleive you dont play it for the storyline and definatly not the character building (as when you hit lev 20 thats it >.< )
I play guild wars because i am forced to party with other people, whether it be my close frieends in the guild, or complete stranger PUGs
it didnt ruin other rpgs, because imo they are completely different......

It's completely apples and oranges. GW isn't really much of an RPG. It's a hack n slash fest that walks you through some sort of story where you're the 2,717th person to complete the quest today.
GW lacks depth and interaction with the environment. You kill things in the environment, but nothing else really.

The thing about GW (and most MMORPGs) is that they really don't involve you. The world gets saved whether you play it or not, and it's already been saved in the same exact way dozens of times that day by the time you wake up in the morning. There's nothing you can do to impact the environment.

Never had this problem myself.
GW isn't much of an RPG anyway, in terms of actual "role-playing". No, I'm not talking about saying "thee" and "forsooth" in chat -- that's silliness. For me, *ROLE-PLAYING* is the ability to define an interesting character that can be treated as an alternative persona -- and as such, GW never was much of an RPG and it continues to be less of one with each update. GW is Diablo II on steroids.
And there's nothing wrong with that! Maybe you're not looking for something with depth, so GW gives you what you need. On the other hand, you might consider expanding your horizons...
I play Oblivion, Gothic, even old Might & Magic games sometimes... and for online games, I spend most of my RPG time in WoW and LOTRO. When one game gets frustrating or boring, I move to a different one. For example, I got frustrated in LOTRO, so I played some GW AB this weekend and *finally* got the Luxon Supporter title. Yesterday, I pumped a level on my Dwarf Hunter in WoW. Today, I'll try to get my languishing Mesmer through Unwaking Waters.
The idea is to have *fun*. I suspect even our venerable Gaile plays other games...

I play GW since may 2005 and this is the first & only online game I ever played. I am quite satisfied, simply cause since this date I only bought Oblivion that I uninstalled after capping Azura sword and closing six Oblivion gates.....Morrowind is far away the best rpg I played....for at least two years. Deus Ex is another one, which has not been mentioned...try it, its an old one but very immersive and awesome. KOTOR is good too, Fable also...
So I must thank Anet cause I save my money playing GW

Deus Ex Rules. Also System Shock 2. Its a shame no one makes games like that lately.
The only RPG I'm waiting for now, is Fallout 3... But I have my doubts if Bethesda was the one to make it right. Im afraid it might turn into Oblivion with guns, and that would be totally unlike Fallout

Im not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing, I am thinking about getting another rpg but im scared the same thing might happen. FF 12 I hear is a great but the time I waste grinding in that game I could be making some dough in this one. Any of you guys experience what I am talking about?

Exact same thing here... recently I bought FFXII, played for about 12 hours and came right back to GW. Before that, I bought Oblivion, played about 40 hours and came right back to GW. Anyway, after haing purchased FFXII I haven't bough aby other games. The next game I am buying is GW:EN... and i'm not gonna spend anymore money on game I am not gonna play enough.

Most of the new stuff tends to be pretty crappy, IMO, lots of Diablo 2 clones.
Guild Wars has me hooked on the lack of grinding. Grind completely killed EVE and WoW for me, why should I have to do boring stuff for a couple months until the game is fun? Screw that.
A lot of the old single player RPGs still hold up very well, though
Baldur's gate 2, the fallout series, planescape, are absolutely awesome, anyone who hasn't played them needs to buy them. Now.
I used to like diablo 2, final fantasy, and all that, but I went back to them a bit ago and... meh. Kinda easy, kinda grindy.
I hated morrowind and loved oblivion (screams as the angry mob tears him to pieces) morrowind was never challenging, not even a little bit. There's only so many times you can move along the map at a snail's pace beating the crap out of cliff racers.
For MMOs, Guild Wars really is the best thing out there right now, though I'm kinda interested in Ncsoft's Tabula Rasa, looks pretty good.

Traditional RPGs, no. Guildwars has not in any way effected my enjoyment of tabletop D&D or Final Fantasy(the single player console entries in the series) or Avernum or Fallout. It has, however, ruined MMOs for me. I just can't put up with stupid amounts of grind, and having an alternative makes them all look worse to me by comparison.

Well I guess it depends. I will say that GW did save me from a sea of "Free to download, Free to play" mmos. Talk about mind numbing crap. Anyway it isn't enough to stop me from playing single player RPG's. I highly enjoy almost all of Biowares titles like Jade Empire, BG, NWN, Kotor, and most likely Mass Effect when it comes out. I also like the Final Fantasy Series although i've never played the MMO version. I tried Oblivion but for some reason I just couldn't get into it.
Anyway I won't say Gw has stopped me from playing other rpgs, but it does keep me coming back after a break every so often.

Every summer I fire up my PSX and playing ~~50-100 hours on a really nice game called Legend of the Dragoon. Wish they'd remake that. Great story, nice battle system and the cut scenes were astonishing...really high quality.

the only reason i choose guild wars over other mmorpgs is because these games are studied and designed to be addictive, and if im going to do this to myself im going to do it with one that does not charge an online fee (though they do sort of require you to buy expansion to have an advantage). i mean guild wars has no races per say its more of a ethnicity thing where the last expansions were asian and now the new one is like african (yes egypt is in africa). i mean the plot is weak and the cut scenes have really bad acting, but no online fee keeps me playing. like all mmo rpgs its a game that requires you to be a lifeless nerd, but unlike oblvion and other console type rpgs you can show that off to thousands of people (laugh at them, the same way you were greeted into the game). mmorpg appeal to the obcesive compulsive. guild wars is ia a sense a game of status, and in a way gaining it is way more accessible and rewarding than in other games, withought an online fee. i mean can you picture how much a say wow player is exploited with the monthly fee if he plays two years. these things were designed to become addictive to milk each player, but gw sort of allows you to play withought that.
